Como avisei na aula de terça, 23/11:
- hoje, durante a aula de 25/11, fiz mediação do debate da jornalista americana-iraniana que foi presa no Irã e esteve na PUC para contar sua história;
- na terça e quinta da semana que vem, 30/11 e 02/12, estarei à disposição para orientar sobre a última matéria do curso na sala 516K mas somente no horário do curso, ou seja, de 11h às 13h; qualquer horário extra deve ser agendado comigo, se isso for possível;
- a matéria deve ser entregue impressa no dia 07/12 às 11h (e não entre 11h e 13h);
- os que ainda não receberam a correção do segundo trabalho, estarei com eles corrigidos na terça, 30/11, e quinta, 02/12, na sala 516K entre 11h e 13h;

No one believes that parliamentary elections in Egypt are democratic. They do not hold out the prospect of changing the government. They are not free and fair. Mohamed ElBaradei, the ex-UN nuclear inspections chief turned Egyptian politician, has said that anyone who votes in Egypt's next elections, slated for November, will be transgressing "the national will." But none of the opposition parties have taken up his boycott call. Every election cycle, indeed, both government and opposition invest immense time and effort in preparation for the balloting. Why do they bother?

SOUTH ASIA: Myanmar Junta Sets Election Date

Myanmar's ruling junta announced November 7 as the date (AP) for the country's first election in two decades; critics have dismissed the vote as a sham designed to cement military rule. The poll is the first since pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy won a landslide victory in 1990, but the military refused to recognize the results. CFR's Joshua Kurlantzick writes the elections present an opportunity for the United States to play a larger role in the country and possibly gain leverage with the regime.

India: Protests gain strength in Indian-administered Kashmir on Friday after government forces killed two people (NDTV) and injured at least eight others for defying a curfew in the disputed region.
